Latin America is sliding towards recession, but Peru is still growing. The country is moving up the list of private equity destinations in the region, with both international and local firms stepping up activity. Darius Sokolov reports.
Latin American private equity players will be heading to Lima this May. The Latin American Venture Capital Association (LAVCA) and the InterAmerican Development Bank’s (IADB) Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) have teamed up with local development bank Cofide to host the country’s first annual private capital forum on May 20. The event aims to call attention to Peru’s emergence as a viable private equity market. “Why is Peru in our focus at the moment?” asks LAVCA executive director Cate Ambrose. “Economic success is a strong point in Peru’s favour. But, also, there is a short list of countries in Latin America where policymakers and local capital have been pro-actively developing their private equity and venture capital industries.
